José Enrique González Medina

Composer

José Enrique González Medina is a major presence in the classical music scene in Mexico City and Los Angeles. Enrique was born in Tijuana and proudly acknowledges the influences of regional folk music on his work. While living in Los Angeles, he was heard on KUSC radio for six years, hosting a bilingual program on Latin American concert music. His work, Las Primas del General Calles, was intended for woodwind trio but became a fun work for string orchestra. Each of the three movements represents a member of that original woodwind trio; their personalities shine through its ensemble and solo passages relying heavily on joyful Latin American dance rhythms.
